1st Born Second is the 2001 debut neo-soul R&B/hip hop album by American singer, songwriter and record producer Bilal. He got signed by Interscope Records in his sophomore year, whereupon he left school. The debut album features contributions from Robert Glasper, Questlove, The Soulquarians and productions from Bilal, Dr. Dre, Questlove of The Roots, Raphael Saadiq and Jay Dee aka J Dilla. It peaked at #31 on the Billboard 200, #10 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums, and received critical acclaim and rave reviews from publications including The Village Voice, Chicago Times and USA Today. His first single "Soul <br/>Sista" charted on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. The album also features the successful singles "Fast Lane" featuring Dr. Dre & Jadakiss and "Reminisce" featuring Mos Def and Common. Furthermore, Bilal was part of the 90's influential neo-soul collective The Soulquarians with members D'Angelo, Q-Tip, Common and Questlove.

In a career spanning over 50 years the American band Kool & the Gang recorded an impressive list of hit songs and hidden gems, now bundled on our exclusive Collected record. The American funk/soul band Commodores peaked in the late 1970s through the mid-1980s with some wonderful hit classics, like "Just to Be Close to You", "Easy", "Three Times a Lady", "Still" and "Lady (You Bring Me Up)". Our exclusive Commodores Collected release contains all these classics, supplemented with fan favourites and other tracks from their impressive oeuvre. <br/><br/>Commodores' long association with Motown began as a result of a tour opening for the Jackson 5 in 1971. With their brass musicians and co-lead singer Lionel Richie they reached to fame by releasing their first R&B number one hit "Slippery When Wet". It meant the start of an impressive career, with seven number one songs and a host of other top 10 hits on the Billboard charts. Soul music originated in the African American community throughout the United States in the late 50s and 60s. Having its roots in African American gospel music and rhythm & blues, it became popular for dancing and listening with prominent record labels as Motown, Atlantic and Stax.
